I head toward the elevators with a chorus of congratulations ringing in my ears.

"Where's she at?" I ask Jason when I make it upstairs and don't see her at her desk.

"Bathroom, sir." Jason nods toward the door, his lips pursed. "Ms. Dawes is in there with her. I'm going to make some changes to security protocols so shit like this never happens again. I want someone posted at the doors at all times. I want someone in the parking deck too."

"Send me what you need," I say without hesitation. "I'll make it happen."

"I think we need to install a panic button at Lauren's desk too," he suggests. "We can set it to alarm in our offices and in yours."

I jerk my chin in a nod, striding toward the bathroom. It might be overkill, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Especially with people like Lily's uncle wandering around. He's probably not the only one with an axe to grind, not with the amount of money we deal with every day. I should have recognized that earlier, but I thought this place was safe as houses. I won't make that mistake again.

"Make it happen. Hire whoever you need and spend whatever you need to spend to make sure that fucker doesn't come near this property again." I hesitate just outside the door, looking at Jason. "You and Miranda?"

"Yes, sir. She's mine."

"Take care of her. She means a lot to my Lily."

"Lily means a lot to her too."

"You know who she is?"

"I know."

I nod again, relieved she told him. Miranda doesn't tell many people about her family. She never mentioned them to me, but I knew. Her father and I occupy the same circles. "Wasn't sure if you did or not. She hasn't told anyone, as far as I know. Figured she'd come out with it when she was ready."

"She wants to be accepted for who she is."

"Being that kind of rich is lonely," I say. Lord knows, I've been there. "People treat you differently, see you differently. It's fucked up. I'm guessing she knows how that feels. Her secret is safe with me, and she has a place here as long as she wants it."

​"Thank you," he murmurs. "This place means a lot to her. I appreciate you watching out for her."

"It's what you do for family."
