Nico Valentino
My brothers are mobsters. Criminals.
They rule their kingdoms with iron fists.
I'm nothing like them.
I'm an astrophysicist. A professor.
My lecture hall is full of laughter.
Until I set eyes on Norah Bishop.
She needs my help, but I need her.
And I'll do whatever it takes to keep her.
Even if it means returning to the family I left.
Norah Bishop
All I've ever wanted was to be a scientist like my dad.
But I stumbled into something I shouldn't have.
Now, the biggest criminal in Chicago is coming for me.
And the only person who can help me is his brother...my new professor.
I don't want to drag Nico into this.
But when he touches me, I lose all control.
He's my professor. I think I want him to be my forever instead.
Loving him comes with a price.
But losing him will break me.

"Do you believe that?" I whisper.
"I didn't."
"What changed?"
He's silent for a minute. "I met you," he says then.
Oh. Wow. I'm not sure what to say to that or what it even means. But I know instinctively that he means it in the most flattering way possible.
"My dad is a scientist," I say after a moment.
"Roger Bishop."
"You know him?"
"I've met him a few times," he says. His voice rumbles at my back like a comforting song. "He's a good man. Hell of a scientist."
"Yeah, he is," I say, smiling. My dad is amazing.
"You want to be an astrophysicist like him, angel?"
"No, I want to be a geophysicist," I say.
"Ah, that explains it."
"Explains what?" I shift against him, trying to get comfortable. He's a warm weight at my back, his arm around me somehow more comforting than a security blanket.
"Why you know so much about magnetohydrodynamics," he growls, his arm tightening around me. "Stay still, Norah."
"I can't help it. There's something poking me in the…" I trail off as realization dawns. It's his penis. Dick? Cock? Tallywhacker? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to call it, and I'm not sure if they're normally that big, but good grief! He's massive. And hard. For me? Or simply because I'm a female and I'm in his bed?
"Trust me," he grits out, "I'm well aware that it's poking you in the back. Why do you think I need you to stop wiggling?"
"Oh," I whisper. And then I wiggle again. I can't help it!
"Norah," he groans.
"Is it always like that? I mean, obviously it's not always like that. That would probably be uncomfortable, not to mention impossible to hide. It feels rather…large. But is it always like that when you have women in your bed?"
"It's been that way for the last six weeks," he mutters, grasping my hip to keep me still. "And I wouldn't know how he reacts to women in my bed since you're the first. But he's a little more discerning than you think, angel."
Six weeks? Is he saying–?
"Yes."
"How did you know what I was thinking?"
"Because I know you, beautiful girl. You think loudly."
"You cannot hear my thoughts." I flip around so I'm facing him, which causes an entirely different problem with his…dick. It's now pressed right against the top of my mound. And oh my god. If I moved just a little bit, it would be right there. My breathing turns choppy as a wave of intense longing rips through me like a gale.
"I don't have to hear them," he says, his voice soft. His breath washes across my face. We're so close together, I can smell the mint of his toothpaste. "You're an eager, curious little thing."
"You're a virgin? There's no way you're a virgin. You're way too hot."
"Norah," he growls.
"It's true!"
"I'm not a saint, but I've never slept with anyone."
"Seriously?" I gape at him in the dark. My eyes have adjusted, and I can make out a little of his body. He's a thick shadow in the dark, the whites of his eyes obvious as he stares at me. "Why not?"
"Because sex should mean something," he says.
"Oh." I process that for a moment.
"It would mean something with you."
"Does that mean–?"
"Yes," he says, sending my heart soaring. He's thought about having sex with me. The next words out of his mouth send my heart plummeting back to earth. "But we're not doing that."
"Why not?"
He's quiet for a minute and then he sighs. "Because you're exhausted and frightened and when we go there, I don't want to wonder if it's because you feel the same way or if it's because you're just looking for comfort."
"Oh," I whisper.
"Go to sleep, angel."
We both fall quiet. My mind is spinning in dizzy circles, making sleep all but impossible. He's thought about sleeping with me. He wants it to mean something to me.
"Nico?"
"Yes, Norah?"
"It would mean something to me," I whisper.
